The Iran national football team has changed its FIFA World Cup base from the United States to Mexico. Mehdi Taj, the president of the Iran Football Federation, announced that the national team will be based in the city of Tijuana, located on the Mexico-US border, during the tournament. Iran is in Group G and will play its first two matches in Los Angeles. The Iran national team will start its campaign on June 15 against New Zealand, then face Belgium on June 21, and finally play Egypt on June 26 in Seattle. Mehdi Mohammadi, the vice president of the Iran Football Federation, said that it is still unclear whether all players and staff members will receive US visas. Gianni Infantino, the FIFA president, said last month at the FIFA Congress in Vancouver that Iran will play its matches in the US as scheduled.
