The Iran national football team has officially moved its base camp from the United States to Tijuana, Mexico. This change comes as a result of the ongoing military conflict between the U.S. and Iran. Mehdi Taj, the president of Iran's football federation, stated that the request to change the team's base camp from the U.S. to Mexico has been approved. This decision was made following meetings with FIFA officials and World Cup organizers in Istanbul. The new base camp for the Iran national football team will be located at Centro Xoloitzcuintle in Tijuana, which is near the Pacific Ocean and on the Mexico–United States border. This change comes just 17 days before the start of the 2026 World Cup, which will be co-hosted by the U.S., Canada, and Mexico. Currently, security planning for this camp is underway, with local authorities coordinating to ensure the team's safety. All of Iran's group stage matches will be played in the U.S., with the team facing New Zealand on June 15 and Belgium on June 21 in Los Angeles, and traveling to Seattle to play Egypt on June 26.
