The Iran national football team has received a US visa for the 2026 World Cup. Tom Barak, the US ambassador to Turkey, confirmed on Friday that visas have been issued for the Iranian national team to participate in the World Cup in the US. Meanwhile, The New York Times reported that all 26 Iranian players have been granted visas, but more than 10 members of the support staff and federation officials who were supposed to accompany the team have not been allowed to enter the US. Mehdi Taj, the president of the Iranian Football Federation, who has a background as a commander in the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, did not receive a US visa. The US and Canada consider the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps a terrorist organization. The Iranian team will fly to Spain on Saturday and then head to their training camp in Mexico. The team will be based in Mexico during the tournament, but all three of their group stage matches will be held in the US.
