The general assembly of Iran's Football Federation was held today and Mehdi Taj was elected as the president with 51 votes. Azizollah Mohammadi and Mirshad Majidi were the other candidates.

Why is it important?

This election was held amidst the upcoming FIFA World Cup, with less than three months to go. Mehdi Taj stated that there is no room for complaint and asked members to also vote for his proposed vice-presidents.

Who is Mehdi Taj?

Mehdi Taj started his sports management career in the 1970s by joining the board of directors of Sepahan Isfahan club. He joined the Revolutionary Guards in 1979 and became the deputy of the Foundation of the Oppressed in Isfahan province.
