FIFA Presidency Election Process
Eurasia.football reported today, Friday, that each of the six CAFA members plays a crucial role in the FIFA presidency battle. The report states that Iran’s vote, directly linked to AFC through its federation president, Mehdi Taj, will favor Sheikh Salman, AFC president.
Iran’s Role in CAFA
Mehdi Taj, president of the Iranian Football Federation and vice‑president of AFC in the Central region, is directly part of Sheikh Salman’s management structure. Unlike Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan, Iran lacks a broad personal and infrastructure network with Gianni Infantino, but Taj is a member of the AFC leadership. Thus, if the decision is based purely on football institutional structure, Iran appears to be the most natural CAFA member to support Salman.
Outcome Forecast
According to Fars, from yesterday UEFA, AFC and Concacaf decided to launch a "vote of no confidence" to remove Gianni Infantino. Reuters disclosed that Sheikh Salman is the main candidate to sit on the FIFA presidency. Given Iran’s direct link to AFC, it is expected that Iran will vote for Salman in this major FIFA battle. Iran has remained silent after about two weeks following this sensitive FIFA war.
