The Iran national football team faces another international friendly test this week. They travel to face Russia at the Ak Bars Arena in Kazan on Tuesday, 29 September 2026.
The match comes at a time when Iran have managed just one victory in their last five outings. Their most recent result was a 3-1 defeat away to Uzbekistan on 24 September.
Head coach Amir Ghalenoei has acknowledged the team's challenging spell. He said: "Iran arrive in Kazan enduring a difficult spell, with only one victory from their last five outings."
The defensive record also shows room for improvement, with seven goals conceded across those five matches. The starting lineup against Uzbekistan featured Alireza Beiranvand in goal and included forwards like Mehdi Taremi.
The friendly against Russia presents an opportunity to reset before the return to competitive action.
Kickoff in Kazan is scheduled for 20:30 Iran time on Tuesday.
